Three Ways to Build a New Boiler Plant
Common Way: Hire a contractor to install a new boiler to replace the existing boiler with a boiler of similar design and connect it to the existing piping without modifications to the heating system and without considerations for energy efficiency. Since your major costs of operating your system is the fuel that you use and not the equipment, and fuel costs are rising, is this a prudent decision?
Better Way: Hire an engineer to write a specification to replace your boiler equipment. Send the specifications out to bid to get the lowest bidder. Ask yourself these questions. Does the engineer have available custom made equipment to build the proper installation? Why do all the specifications have provisions for change orders “extras”. What happens when the project has problems and the contractor blames the engineer and the engineer blames the contractor? Who is left in the middle?
Preferred Way: Hire a "Design Manufacture, Build, Maintenance and Service Company”, with the unique ability to custom design a new boiler room to fit the custom needs of your facility taking into full consideration the safety, economy and dependability. A company that will include this clause in its contract. “This is a design build contract. Anything required to make a complete working installation whether or not specified is included”. What does this mean to you? One responsibility! No change orders “extras”! PEACE OF MIND?
